How to counter and exploit weaknesses

Punish her between combos: Riven has cooldowns between Q casts, and when everything is on CD she can't do anything.

Her E shield has a 10-6s cooldown: trade after it expires.

Champions who stack armor and take short trades counter her well (Malphite, Poppy).

Respect her level 6: the R burst + Ignite is often a kill if you're below 60% HP.
